Program AnnouncementGoing Green: Museums as Leaders in Sustainability Join us to discuss ways museums can "walk the talk" of environmental sustainability both programmatically and operationally. From the local to the national, our panel will provide an overview of recent green museum initiatives including the Green Museums Accord and explore the opportunities for and challenges of reducing and recycling museum waste. Learn about the California Academy of Sciences' efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and raise visitor awareness with their LEED Platinum certified building and public programs. Speakers:

Save the Date for our Next Program: Wednesday, June 10, 2009 - Teacher and School Programs Presenter Bios: Tim McNeil is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Design and Director of the Design Museum at the UC, Davis. He is the faculty director for courses in exhibition planning and design, and, as Design Museum Director, is responsible for its ongoing exhibitions program. In addition, Tim is principal of Muniz/McNeil, a multi-disciplinary design and research practice whose recent projects include the design and renovation of the EcoCenter at San Francisco Environment. Tim is former creative director of the Natural Resources Defense Council?s Environmental Action Center in Santa Monica, CA, which, in 2003, was the first ?green? interpretive center in the U.S. to receive LEED Platinum certification. With over twenty years of exhibition planning experience, Tim is an authority on sustainable design solutions for museum environments. He is chair of the California Association of Museums Green Museum Initiative and co-chair of the American Association of Museum's Green Strategic Planning Committee. Tim has a BA in graphic design from Middlesex University, and a MA in exhibition design from University of the Arts, London. Aaron Pope Shawn Rosenmoss is a Senior Environmental Specialist with the SF Department of the Environment (SF Environment), with a specialty in Grants, Fundraising, and Community Partnerships. In addition to granting out $1 million annually to Community Based Organizations for their work in Zero Waste and Environmental Justice, she is responsible for developing funding sources for many of SF Environment?s cutting-edge projects and programs. Rosenmoss currently spearheads its Green Stacks Partnership with the City?s public library system, a multi-dimensional collaboration that covers sustainability across collections, programming, facilities renovations, and operations and maintenance for all 28 branches. Prior to joining SF Environment, Rosennmoss ran a circus (really). A former dancer and aerialist, Rosenmoss holds a BS in Electrical Engineering and a Secondary Math Teaching Credential. She sits on the Boards of the Artists in Residence Program at the SF Dump and Flyaway Productions Aerial Company and has created an Implementing Green organizing tool being uses by schools and non-profit agencies around the State. |
