Program Evaluation: What, Why, and How
Wednesday, October 9, 2002, 2:30-5:00
PM
Children's Discovery Museum, San Jose
Museums and informal learning settings are increasingly interested in
measuring program impact and effectiveness. Additionally, foundations,
government agencies, and other groups are likely to require evaluation
and more accountability now and in the future.
We have invited a group of experienced evaluation professionals, including
a museum education director, foundation representative, professional evaluator,
and nonprofit program manager to speak about their evaluation experience
and expertise. The panelists include:
Jenni Martin, Education Director, Children's Discovery Museum
Terri Lind, Director of Programs, Community Foundation of Silicon
Valley
Fay Twersky, Principal, Informing Change, Berkeley
Therese Martin, Program Manager, Artspan
The panel will address assessment issues including:
- Information on what it means to evaluate program effectiveness and
outcomes
- The challenges of measuring program impact
- Evaluation methods and tools
After the panel, participants will break out into small roundtable discussion
groups led by the panelists. This is an opportunity to hear from experienced
evaluators and get answers to your questions about planning and
conducting an evaluation, or working with outside consultants.
